On February 21, the official opening conference of the INTERREG project "Berlin-Szczecin-Kołobrzeg Cycle Route" took place in Szczecin. This cross-border project strengthens the cycling infrastructure between Germany and Poland and helps to promote sustainable tourism in the region.
"One focus is on marketing the cycle route in Poland, particularly via the West Pomerania app, but it will also be used to attract Polish cycle tourists to the attractive routes on the German side. In this respect, both East Brandenburg and West Pomerania will benefit," says Rainer Schinkel, Chairman of the Oder-Spree Lakeland Tourism Association.
Berlin and Szczecin, as major cities in the region, act as natural attractions for cyclists. The Zachodniopomorskie voivodeship has the ambitious goal of becoming Poland's leading cycling region. In the Brandenburg part of the project, the focus is particularly on the European Bridge Neurüdnitz/Siekierki - Wriezen - Prötzel - Strausberg - Rehfelde route. It connects existing supra-regional cycle routes such as the Oderbruchbahnradweg (OBBRW), the Tour Brandenburg (TB) and the European Cycle Route R1.
The opening conference brought together numerous project participants, including the associated partners Märkisch-Oderland and Tourismusverband Seenland Oder-Spree e.V. A highlight of the event was the presentation of a high-quality brochure by the renowned magazine National Geographic, which is attracting national attention as a partner of the project.
Cycling continues to be a trend - whether day trips or multi-day tours, interest in experiencing nature and culture sustainably on two wheels is growing steadily. This is precisely where the INTERREG project "Berlin-Szczecin-Kołobrzeg Cycle Route" comes in and strengthens cross-border cooperation in the field of cycle tourism.
