At the International Green Week, Chairman of the Board Rainer Schinkel, Managing Director Ellen Rußig with Lakeland employee Emely Fischer, Oder-Spree District Administrator Frank Steffen and Regional Manager Grit Körmer accepted the award on behalf of the LAG Märkische Seen und Oderland on the first day of the trade fair. Last year, Brandenburg's most water-rich travel region received the first prize for its "slow trips - time for the country and its people". In 2023, Ellen Rußig and her team were on the silver podium with their "late riser tours" and a year earlier, "Picnic in the Lake District" also took first place.
Birdwatching in the Oder-Spree Lake District, which has now been awarded a gold medal at the start of the agricultural and food fair, picks up on a supposedly niche topic with great potential. After all, birds are really popular and for many guests and locals alike, observing the feathered world is part of the perfect nature experience. In the Oder-Spree Lake District, a wide variety of observation areas have now been qualified for this purpose, where you can hear, see and discover the diverse birdlife all year round during a hiking or cycling tour with stops at designated observation points. The most beautiful birdwatching hotspots include the Altfriedländer Teiche, Märkische Schweiz, Groß Schauener Seenkette and Reicherskreuzer Heide. There and at other locations, interested parties can get an overview of the ornithological events in the area using a specially attached QR code. On a separate website (Birdwatching in the Oder-Spree Lake District) of the Oder-Spree Lake District, you can find all the information about the observation areas, bird species, tour suggestions and a calendar of events. Hosts such as hotels and restaurants are partners.
"When developing our products, regionality and supporting local providers are important to us. That is why it is important for us to involve our service providers in this offer and thus bring added value
to the region," says Ellen Rußig, Managing Director of Seenland Oder-Spree.
The pro agro association received more than 40 applications in the three categories of rural and nature tourism, direct marketing and the food industry for this competition year.
The Oder-Spree Lake District is presenting itself with its numerous tour recommendations, excursion tips and its hot-off-the-press host directory until January 26 at the traditional trade fair for food, agriculture and horticulture in Brandenburg Hall 21.a. The team is supported by regional partners such as Fischhaus Wendisch Rietz, Landfleischerei Ranzig, Rennbahn Hoppegarten, the Artprojekt Group with its restaurant Freilich am See and Café Le gâteau rose in Bad Saarow, as well as the Fürstenwalder Brauereimuseum.
