In order to further develop the Oder-Spree district as a municipal health and care location and make it fit for the future, the Oder-Spree district has set out to bundle Oder-Spree Krankenhaus GmbH, Rettungsdienst im Landkreis Oder-Spree GmbH and Seniorenheime des Landkreises Oder-Spree gGmbH under one umbrella brand.

District Administrator Frank Steffen: "We have only been structuring the overall project for a few weeks and are still in the initial phase at various levels. Despite this early process, it is important for us to involve the people in the district and the employees of the respective facilities in our plans at an early stage and to ensure maximum transparency."

With the plan to merge the three district-owned facilities in the areas of health, rescue and care under one association, the district is actively facing up to the growing challenges of the municipal healthcare system. Through closer cooperation between the facilities, the combined expertise and collective knowledge of the different areas can help to sustainably strengthen the quality of municipal medical healthcare and nursing care.

The plan is to create a network that not only strengthens the identity and recognizability of the district's own healthcare and nursing facilities, but also makes it easier for citizens to access municipal services. Patients and those in need of care benefit from better coordinated care structures, shorter communication channels and seamless care along the entire supply chain.

Michael Rochow, Managing Director of Oder-Spree Krankenhaus GmbH and Rettungsdienst im Landkreis Oder-Spree GmbH: "A joint brand strengthens our attractiveness as an employer, as closer cooperation between the facilities can create better working conditions, retain skilled workers in the long term and attract new talent."

Sandra Gosemann, Managing Director of Seniorenheime des Landkreises Oder-Spree gGmbH and Michael Rochow informed the employees of the individual facilities about the plans on Thursday afternoon, February 6, 2025. That same evening, District Administrator Frank Steffen and the responsible department head Michael Buhrke met with the parliamentary group chairmen of the district council in a joint discussion on the project.

In the coming weeks and months, the overall project will be structured even more precisely and further planned at various levels in order to secure healthcare provision in the Oder-Spree district in the long term, establish modern structures and strengthen the location for the future.
