Nonet of the BSOF plays chamber music with orchestral sound in the atrium of the town hall

Chamber music with an orchestral sound will be presented by the Nonet of the Brandenburg State Orchestra Frankfurt (BSOF) on Sunday, 24 May at 11.00 am in the atrium of Frankfurt City Hall.

The musicians of the BSOF will perform the Nonetto by Nino Rotta and the Nonet No. 2 by Bohuslav Martinů in an orchestration for flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, violin, viola, cello and double bass. The Concertino WV 75 for flute, viola and double bass by Erwin Schulhoff will also be performed.

All three works are masterpieces of 20th century chamber music. The musically mature Nonette oscillate between chamber music and orchestral fullness and are of great stylistic and harmonic sophistication.

Erwin Schulhoff's Concertino, on the other hand, captivates with its unusual instrumentation, the resulting contrasts and the combination of Eastern European folk music with avant-garde timbres. Despite its small instrumentation, this concertino also unfolds a surprising orchestral fullness. Very melodic passages alternate with spirited dances and fiery rhythms.

This is the seventh and last Sunday matinee of the BSOF this season.
