The Brandenburg State Orchestra Frankfurt (BSOF) faces a change of its artistic direction: The current General Music Director (GMD) Jörg-Peter Weigle has announced that he will not renew his current contract.

Since September 2018, Weigle has been chief conductor, artistic director and GMD of the BSOF. Highlights of his work with this orchestra include the open-air performance of Shostakovich's "Leningrad" Symphony in front of the memorial site "Seelower Heights", the performance of the 3. Mahler's Symphony, Wagner's "Ring without Words" in cooperation with the Kleist Forum, the project "100 Years - The Golden Twenties" as well as the world premiere of Steffen Schleiermacher's "Three Odes for Beethoven" with the BSOF and the Philharmonic Choir Berlin in the Berlin Philharmonic Hall.

In the grown trust between Jörg-Peter Weigle and the city of Frankfurt (Oder), it now came to the joint decision not to extend the contract beyond August 31, 2025. After seven years as GMD, Weigle will hand over the position, which has always been filled with responsibility and heart, to a successor.

Jörg-Peter Weigle: "Working with the BSOF gives me great pleasure and I am very happy about our successes. Nevertheless, I am not seeking another GMD contract after August 1, 2025. I would then like to place this responsibility in other hands. Until then, I look forward to making music together with our orchestra and to further highlights."

For the successor, a public search process will be conducted after the tender this season.
