Museum Viadrina takes part in International Museum Day

On Sunday, 17 May, the International Museum Day of 2026 will take place. In the state of Brandenburg, the motto is "Committed to our museums". The Viadrina Municipal Museum will also be taking part from 11.00 a.m. and is organising this year's day of action under the two concepts of "commitment" and "volunteering".
 

A varied programme awaits all visitors:

At 11.00 a.m., teacher "Lämpel" will welcome inquisitive pupils in the historical classroom.

At 1.00 p.m., a guided tour of Frankfurt's city history is on the programme under the motto "Frankfurt in 60 minutes".

At 2.00 p.m., Gerd Knappe, one of ten volunteers at the museum, takes visitors on a tour of "The world of Frankfurt picture postcards" in the Kurfürstensaal.

At 3.00 p.m., volunteer restorer and trained sound engineer Peter Hellert and Dr Karl-Konrad Tschäpe will present "Rarities from the Reka Collection". The Frankfurt Reka collection is one of the largest and most important collections of musical instruments in the state of Brandenburg.

At 4.00 p.m. a guided tour entitled "Committed to Frankfurt's City Museum" will take place with Horst Möhring, Chairman of the Association of Friends and Sponsors of the Viadrina Museum e.V., and Museum Director Dr Tim S. Müller. The tour will focus on the objects and exhibits that the Friends have acquired for the Frankfurt City Museum in recent years. As part of the tour, a new rarity on Frankfurt's city history will also be presented to the general public for the first time.

Children and young people aged 4 and over will have the opportunity to do handicrafts all day.

On International Museum Day, admission to the museum is free of charge all day.
