Minister Schüle promotes visits to the state-wide offers for Museum Day / State Secretary Dünow visits Oderbruch Museum in Altranft
Minister of Culture Dr Manja Schüle promotes visits to the state-wide offers for International Museum Day in Brandenburg: "Are you curious about a wild plant tour in a monastery setting? Want to design ceramic objects yourself? Want to know what an escape room has to do with a museum? Meet Nazi contemporary witnesses virtually? Or simply celebrate a museum festival? Anything is possible on 17 May: more than 100 museums in Brandenburg are offering unusual insights, great events and numerous hands-on activities on International Museum Day. And impressively demonstrate that our colourful and lively museum landscape thrives on voluntary work: more than 3,000 Brandenburg residents preserve collections, communicate local history, organise events - and thus turn museums into places of learning, encounters and active participation in shaping local cultural life. Thank you from the bottom of my heart - and also to the Brandenburg Museum Association for its outstanding, dedicated work!"
Secretary of State for Culture Tobias Dünow will visit the Oderbruch Museum in Altranft (Märkisch-Oderland) at 2.00 pm on Sunday to mark Museum Day. As part of its storytelling café, the Altranft Museum Association will be presenting objects from its depot that tell us something about the historical use of energy in the Oderbruch region. These include tools, canisters, evidence of the sugar industry and old tiller holders.

The International Museum Day was launched in 1977 by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) to draw attention to museums and their diversity. Under this year's motto "Committed to our museums", more than 100 museums in Brandenburg are taking part in Museum Day with events, guided tours, lectures, concerts, readings, hands-on activities and museum festivals. Museum Day in Brandenburg will be officially opened by the Museumsverband des Landes Brandenburg e.V. on 17 May at 11.00 am at the Museum Mühlberg 1547 (Elbe-Elster), which is also celebrating its 100th anniversary.
