Axel Vogel, Minister for Agriculture, Environment and Climate Protection of the State of Brandenburg, visited Frankfurt (Oder) as part of his tour of districts and independent cities.

Here he met with Lord Mayor René Wilke and the city's Head of Urban Development, Construction and Environment, Dr. André-Benedict Prusa. Afterwards, Axel Vogel, accompanied by the Lord Mayor, visited Frankfurt companies to discuss current developments and problems on site. At the Neumann fruit farm in the Markendorf district, the State Environment Minister was particularly interested in the model system for efficient frost protection irrigation and hail protection. During the visit to the PlantAge company in Markendorf, the focus was on climate protection aspects.

Later in the day, Minister Axel Vogel will visit the European University Viadrina, where he will discuss climate protection issues as part of a future dialog with the "Students for Climate Justice" initiative.

Axel Vogel, Minister for Agriculture, the Environment and Climate Protection of the State of Brandenburg: "In the independent city of Frankfurt (Oder), numerous tasks from my house are bundled together: On the Oder, we are continuously improving flood protection and in the fruit-growing area in Markendorf, we are using funds from the Future Investment Fund to promote a model system for frost protection irrigation and hail protection as a measure to adapt to the effects of climate change. As a border and twin city, Frankfurt (Oder) plays a special role in cooperation with Poland. This cooperation takes place in particular with the Marshal Offices in the neighboring voivodeships and has been further intensified by the Brandenburg side, also as a result of the major ecological disaster in the Oder in August 2022."

René Wilke, Mayor of the City of Frankfurt (Oder): "Politicians should listen carefully and deal with the problems on the ground, according to a justified and frequently heard demand these days. Minister Axel Vogel acted in this spirit in our city today. Discussing difficulties and particular challenges face-to-face is the best way forward. It's good when members of the state government see it that way and put it into practice."
