Language assessment before school enrollment

In the state of Brandenburg, a high proportion of language conspicuities and disorders (between 20 and 30 percent) is regularly found in the school entry examinations of children. At the same time, the supply rate of day care for children between three years and school entry is over 90 percent nationwide. Daycare centers therefore provide a suitable framework for identifying children with language problems and providing them with targeted support in good time.

Child day care centers, in cooperation with the elementary schools, are responsible for the task of language assessment and language support before school enrollment. Tying to the compulsory schooling is the participation obligation of all children in this determination one year before school enrollment and, if necessary, in a language support course in the day care center fixed.

In the 30 Frankfurt daycare centers with preschool part, the necessary personnel and material conditions for the language assessment and language support are available. Parents whose children are registered in daycare centers receive corresponding information about the specific procedure in the parents' meeting.

All parents with children born in the period from October 1, 2017 to September 30, 2018 who are not cared for in a daycare center but at home,are asked to contact the Office for Youth and Social Affairs by phone or in person for further information.
