Goosebumps guaranteed: With "Sweeney Todd - The Demon Barber of Fleet Street", Frankfurt's Kleist Forum presents a black-humored musical thriller about the bloody revenge of the London barber of the same name. The guest performance by Staatstheater Cottbus can be seen on September 27 and 29.
The young barber Benjamin Baker is sent into exile by a scheming judge because he covets the barber's beautiful wife. Their daughter, still a baby, is placed in the judge's care. After 15 years, Benjamin Baker returns to London as Sweeney Todd to settle the score with the corrupt judge. He is aided in his gruesome quest for revenge by the pie maker Mrs. Lovett. Her meat pies suddenly become big sellers, while one customer after another disappears from the barber's shop. Revenge turns to murder, with fatal consequences ...
The hit Broadway musical was made into a film in 2007 by cult director Tim Burton with Johnny Depp in the leading role. In the Cottbus production, it can be experienced in a German-language version.
