On 27 and 28 February 2026, the III German-Polish Cycle Tourism Days took place in Szczecin. The event was organised by the Marshal's Office of the Zachodniopomorskie Voivodeship. The symposium offered stakeholders from administration, tourism and infrastructure an important platform for cross-border dialogue on the development of cycle tourism.

The district of Märkisch-Oderland was represented as the lead partner in the INTERREG project "Cycling-Net Europabrücke" and took the opportunity to provide information on the current status of project implementation. In the latest issue of the National Geographic Traveler magazine, the two cycle path sections of the project partners, the Barnim-Oderbruch office and the municipality of Cedynia, were presented to a wide audience.

Project status "Cycling-Net Europabrücke"

The "Cycling-Net Europabrücke" project is being implemented as part of the Interreg VI A Mecklenburg-Vorpommern/Brandenburg/Polska 2021-2027 cooperation programme. It is co-financed by the European Union's European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

Execution period: 01 July 2025–30 June 2028
Total budget: €2,638,146.76, of which 80% ERDF funding (€2,110.517.39)

Budget distribution:
District of Märkisch-Oderland (lead partner): €72,543.32
Amt Barnim-Oderbruch: €2,297,186.46
Cedynia municipality: €268,416.98

The necessary planning services are currently being continued and additional services are being put out to tender. At the same time, the project partners are preparing the tendering procedures for the upcoming construction work.
The aim of the project is to connect the "Europe Bridge" to the trans-European cycle path network in the assisted area and to enhance, consolidate and market sustainable tourism offers. Over a total length of 10.07 km, the tourist cycle infrastructure will be linked and modernised across borders. Around 2.9 million residents and guests in the funded area will benefit from the improved infrastructure in the long term.

As the lead partner, the district of Märkisch-Oderland is coordinating the content and organisational implementation of the project. A central focus is the development and establishment of a EuroVelo network in the German-Polish funding area.

This includes:

  • Establishing a cross-border network of municipalities, tourism organisations and other stakeholders,
  • Identifying deficits along the EuroVelo routes,
  • Developing joint solutions and work plans to improve the quality and marketing of the cycle routes,
  • The organisation of three cross-border symposia on topics such as transnational offer development, digital marketing opportunities and infrastructural analysis of the cycle path network,
  • expansion of the e-bike charging network in the district (e.g. in Bliesdorf, Priesdorf and Priesdorf).

Investments by the project partners

Amt Barnim-Oderbruch
Modernisation of 9.68 km of tourist cycle path infrastructure in the section between the Europabrücke Neurüdnitz-Siekierki bridge and the village of Wriezen along the Oderbruchbahn cycle path.

Municipality of Cedynia

By participating in the III German-Polish Cycle Tourism Days, the district of Märkisch-Oderland is emphasising the importance of cross-border exchange for the sustainable development of cycle tourism. The "Cycling-Net Europabrücke" project makes an important contribution to strengthening German-Polish cooperation and sustainable tourism development in the shared border region.
