City centres in Germany are currently facing many challenges: vacancies, migration to online retail, the impending generational shift, digitalization. Loss of attractiveness and desolation are the result. To do something about this process, Citymanagement Frankfurt (Oder) is planning an offensive to revitalize Frankfurt's city centre with GewerbeFREI.

On March 19, 2026, the vacant commercial spaces in Karl-Marx-Straße, Große Scharrnstraße, the Lenné Passagen and the Oderturm will open their doors to the public from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

For anyone who has the dream of opening a business – whether a store, restaurant, studio, workshop or café - this is a unique opportunity to walk through the space and make direct contact with the landlords. All ideas are welcome. From start-ups to long-standing business owners to grandparents of inventive grandchildren: the doors are open to everyone. Pre-registration is not required.

The open spaces will be illuminated in color for the event, making them visible from the outside. The areas will also be marked on a digital map. This will be available from the beginning of March on the following website: www.frankfurt-slubice.eu/de/citymanagement/aktuelles

As partners of the campaign, WohnBau Frankfurt, Wohnungswirtschaft Frankfurt (Oder) and the two central shopping centers Lenné Passagen and Oderturm have joined the GewerbeFREI project in order to join forces to make the potential of the city centre as a business location visible. The aim of the event is to view existing vacancies as an opportunity for new beginnings. It aims to bring interested parties and landlords together in the long term and break down barriers.
