The German and Polish governments attach particular importance to the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) in the area of German-Polish academic cooperation. In the German-Polish Action Plan, which was adopted by both governments in Warsaw on Tuesday, July 2, the European University, Adam Mickiewicz University Poznań and the joint institution Collegium Polonicum are specifically named as role models.

The paper states: "We encourage our higher education institutions and non-university research institutions to deepen their cooperation on a bilateral and European level. (...) Furthermore, we recognize the important role that the European University Viadrina plays as a role model for bilateral scientific cooperation; this applies in particular to the Collegium Polonicum, a unique project of the European University Viadrina and the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań."

To this Prof. Dr. Eduard Mühle, President of the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder): "The prominent mention of the Viadrina and its Polish partner university is a motivating confirmation of our cross-border activities in the field of research and teaching. Due to our location on the German-Polish border and our founding mission, German-Polish cooperation is at the heart of Viadrina's self-image and at the same time shapes our everyday academic life – in joint research projects with Polish partners and on German-Polish topics, in degree programs leading to German-Polish degrees, and in intensive university partnerships."

Prof. Dr. habil. Bogumiła Kaniewska, Rector of the Adam Mickiewicz University of Poznań: "The Adam Mickiewicz University of Poznań has consistently set itself the goal of promoting internationalization in science and teaching. The Collegium Polonicum, which is run jointly with the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder), is an excellent example of international cooperation – both in teaching and in academic activities. No other Polish university can boast such an achievement. The Collegium Polonicum has been in existence for more than 30 years and offers joint German-Polish degree courses and double degrees. Its activities are proof that bridges of understanding and cooperation between nations can be built through education and science. It is a place where people from different cultures come together to work for a future based on mutual respect, understanding and common development."

The authors of the action plan also highlight the "KIU. Kompetenzverbund Interdisziplinäre Ukrainestudien Frankfurt (Oder) – Berlin", which is led by the European University and in which the Willy Brandt Center for German and European Studies at the University of Wrocław is involved. The ceremonial opening of the competence network will take place at a prominent event on Thursday, July 11 in Frankfurt (Oder).
