The Frankfurt registry office was founded in 1874. Since then it has been responsible, among other things, for the registration of births, marriages and deaths. The civil status records have been archived in the Frankfurt (Oder) City Archives. These records are often used for genealogical research.

With funding from the Brandenburg Ministry of Science, Research and Culture, the registers up to 1909, the marriage registers up to 1929, have now been digitized. Also the registers of the incorporated localities and the registers of the Jewish and Catholic communities and the so-called dissidents, kept by the local police until 1874, have been digitized.

Archive director Dr. Denny Becker: "The archive college has completely indexed and published the records of the registry office in a so-called Findbuch. Anyone interested can research their ancestors here via the digitized name indexes up to 1931 and the digitized registers up to 1909/1929. We would like to thank the Ministry for providing the funding, without which the project would not have been possible. We would also like to thank our colleagues at the German Digital Library for their excellent cooperation. The City Archive will now digitize additional register volumes and publish them after the expiry of the statutory retention periods."
