Frankfurt's Gauß-Gymnasium becomes "Fair Trade School

In just one school year, the Carl-Friedrich-Gauß-Gymnasium in Frankfurt (Oder) has received both the certificate of the "international sustainability school" and the certificate of the "Fair Trade School".

The "Fair Trade School" certificate recognizes the school's commitment to raising students' awareness of the importance of fair trade, environmental protection and social responsibility.

To be recognized as a "Fair Trade School", various criteria must be met:

• A school team consisting of students, parents and teaching staff organizes the work of the school initiative and all school activities.
• Furthermore, the school is committed to regularly offering fair trade products and implementing the principles of sustainability and fair trade in the classroom. This includes the sale of fair trade products in the school cafeteria and Fair-O-Mat (vending machine with fair trade products), the use of fair trade coffee and tea in the staff room, and the integration of topics such as global trade, sustainable development and social justice in the classroom.

The Fair Trade School Initiative provides comprehensive education for sustainable development and motivates to become active and bring about change by means of school actions.

Under the school leadership of Dr. Rita Lange are offered at the Gauss High School optimal conditions for the establishment and work of the "Fair Trade AG" and the "Umwelt AG" under the leadership of Maria Koslowski and Juliane Kaplan.

With the certification, the Gauß-Gymnasium joins a worldwide movement that offers schools support, resources and recognition for their efforts.

On Wednesday, July 12, 2023, starting at 8:45 a.m., a summer party will be organized by the 11th grade students as the end of the school year. In the course of this, a representative of the Fair Trade Organization Germany will come to Frankfurt (Oder) and present the award.
