On Thursday, September 12, 2024, the nationwide warning day will take place from 11.00 a.m. The city of Frankfurt (Oder) is taking part as part of its duties as the lower disaster control authority. A test alarm is planned with all available warning options until around 11.45 a.m. There is no danger or need for action for the population.

The city currently has 17 siren locations. These are all operational and are triggered by the Oderland control center on the day of the warning. To date, 16 sites have been replaced thanks to funding from the federal and state governments. The remaining siren location will also be modified in the near future with funding from the federal government.

The warning signal consists of a one-minute wailing tone (rising and falling). The all-clear is given with a continuous one-minute wailing tone.

The day of action offers the opportunity to test existing warning devices in the city and to sensitize the population to the need for population warnings.

There are various ways in Germany to warn people of dangers, including sirens, warning apps and cell broadcasting, for example. This warning mix makes it possible to reach a large number of people with warnings.

In order to strengthen the warning system in the long term, regular stress tests are necessary, following which the technology and functionalities are analyzed and optimized.
