When thousands of guests from 77 cities and 11 European countries gather from 11 to 14 June 2026 for the 46th International Hanseatic Day of the Modern Era in the Polish Hanseatic city of Stargard, the twin cities of Frankfurt (Oder) and Słubice will also be represented by a joint delegation. Under this year’s motto “Gates to new opportunities”, Stargard will become a meeting place for the European Hanseatic family and a showcase for exchange, culture and international cooperation.

Today, Thursday 11 June, the delegation is setting off for Stargard. It is led by Lord Mayor Dr Axel Strasser and the Mayor of Słubice, Marzena Słodownik. Together, they will represent the Hanseatic twin city at the most important networking event of the international city alliance “DIE HANSE”, which has been connecting people, cities and cultures across borders for decades.&

The twin city of Frankfurt (Oder)–Słubice will present itself there as a living example of cross-border cooperation. Together, both cities are promoting the cultural diversity, tourist attractions and economic potential of the region. They are supported by staff from the local authorities, city marketing departments and committed members of the Youth Hanse. The delegation is also making its mark culturally: the Bohema dance group from Słubice and the Frankfurt folk band Familie Gerstenberg are bringing music, joie de vivre and a touch of the twin city’s identity to Stargard. During their performances on the event stages and at the joint information stand, they will demonstrate just how vibrant and diverse the German-Polish neighbourhood is today.

For the delegation from Frankfurt (Oder) and Słubice, taking part in Hanse Day is far more than just an official engagement. It is an expression of a shared European identity and a powerful sign that cooperation, trust and openness still form the basis for new opportunities today.

The project “The Twin City and its Hanseatic Cultural Heritage | Dwumiasto – kultura i dziedzictwo Hanzy” is funded by the Small Projects Fund (KPF) “Culture & Tourism” of the Euroregion PRO EUROPA VIADRINA as part of the INTERREG VI A Brandenburg–Poland 2021–2027 cooperation programme, with funding from the European Regional Development Fund.
