Film screening and discussion: "The Spiegel Affair East 1978

In 1978, the news magazine Der Spiegel published a "Manifesto of the First Organized Opposition in the GDR." This pamphlet critical of the state demanded reforms and German-German reunification. Uniquely in the history of the GDR, a group of SED reformers caused an uproar here.

On Thursday, May 11, 2023 at 5:00 p.m. in the Memorial and Documentation Center "Victims of political tyranny", Carl-Philipp-Emanuel-Bach Street 11, the film "The Mirror Affair East 1978" will be shown. Admission is free.

The film deals with the lesser-known chapter of GDR history surrounding the stirring attempt to give GDR citizens a democratic and all-German perspective.

The screening is made with the permission of the Stiftung Aufarbeitung and is a project "Places of Peace, Places of Violence in Frankfurt (Oder)" an event in cooperation with the Volkshochschule Frankfurt (Oder).
