In cooperation with the Cultural Office of the City of Frankfurt (Oder), works on the subject of literature will be exhibited for the first time from October 15 to December 14, 2024 in the Artothek in House 1 of the City and Regional Library, Bischofstraße 17.
The exhibition will open on Tuesday, October 15 at 6 p.m. with a reading and introduction to the exhibition by the artist Karla Woisnitza.
The Frankfurt Artothek is home to numerous artistic explorations of literary works. The City and Regional Library provides the framework for presenting these works. The exhibition begins with Karla Woisnitza, who has been working with works by the writer Christa Wolf since the 1970s and encouraged the Frankfurt (Oder) district to create drawings of women writers in the 1980s. In the exhibition, her works on "Kein Ort. Nirgends" will be shown alongside the paintings that were not purchased. Today, all of the works from this group of works are in the Artothek Frankfurt (Oder) and can be borrowed.
The Artothek was founded in the early 1990s from the holdings of the Building Department for Visual Arts and Monument Conservation and the Center for Artistic Workshops. Today, interested citizens, local companies and institutions can borrow works of art from the collection. The collection contains over 1,000 works of painting and graphic art by predominantly regional artists. These were created for the city of Frankfurt (Oder) and its institutions from 1960 onwards.
