A joint application by the municipalities of Frankfurt (Oder) and Słubice entitled "Frankfurt-Słubice Master Plan 2025–2035 (Phase I) – Setting the course for innovative, sustainable, multimodal mobility in the twin city" was approved at the meeting of the Monitoring Committee of the Interreg VIA program Brandenburg-Lubuskie 2021–2027 on 19 December 2023.
The reasons for the application include the following: "The German-Polish intertwined area Frankfurt (Oder)-Słubice can only master global challenges together. In order not only to react to crises, but also to shape the future, the cities are taking their cooperation to a new level and agreeing on coordinated planning for 2025–2035 in the key areas of 'sustainable, multimodal mobility' and 'climate-friendly development of a cross-border city center on the waterfront'. Because a common future needs common planning."
The three-year project with total costs of almost 960,000 euros is funded by the European Union with 80 percent. The implementation of the project is supported by the Marshal's Office of the Lubuskie Voivodeship, the Brandenburg Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Planning and the Joint Berlin-Brandenburg Regional Planning Department as associated partners.
