On Saturday, March 25, 2023 at 8:30 pm, it's that time again: People all over the world symbolically turn off the lights for one hour. In this "Earth Hour", Frankfurt (Oder) and Słubice participate as a double city. The lights at the City Hall, the European University Viadrina and the Collegium Polonicum go out
Jointly with the WWF (World Wide Fund For Nature), Earth Hour is to set an example for conscious climate protection and more commitment to the future of the planet. The action unites millions of people worldwide.
Each and every individual can participate on March 25 at 8:30 p.m. by symbolically turning off the lights: Dinner in the dark, painting with glow-in-the-dark paints, taking a walk at night.
Online, using the hashtags #earthhour or #BiggestHourForEarth, people can mark their personal participation or implementation of their own ideas via social media channels.
The WWF's Earth Hour is already taking place for the 17th time. Meanwhile, the "Earth Hour" is organized on all continents. It took its beginning in the year 2007 in Sydney. In recent years, thousands of cities in 192 countries have participated. In Germany alone, there was a record participation of 663 cities and municipalities in 2022.
