Each year, a different Hanseatic city hosts and invites to celebrate Hanseatic history, tradition and international understanding. Furthermore, among others, Frankfurt's Lord Mayor René Wilke, Słubice's Mayor Mariusz Olejniczak, the Chairman of Frankfurt's City Council Wolfgang Neumann, the Polish Chairwoman of the Joint Committee of the Twin City Agnieszka Pakulska, the City Marketing, bridge builders and two cultural groups will travel to Toruń. Participation in this event is intended to help raise the profile of the twin city, arouse the interest of tourists and investors, and strengthen relations with other Hanseatic cities.
The International Hanse Convention
The Hanseatic League was a medieval trade alliance that connected cities in Europe from the 11th to the 17th century, promoting trade and shipping. This confederation of cities worked together to establish trade contacts, represent common interests and stand together in conflict situations. Even at that time the Hansa Convention was held. It was held for the first time in 1356, deliberated on the interests of the Hanseatic League and the common approach.
In 1980, the New Hanseatic League was founded. It is the largest voluntary urban community in the world. For now the active network consists of almost 200 cities in 16 countries. The New Hanseatic League no longer sees itself as a trading community, but rather as a living and cultural community that aims to preserve the traditions of the old Hanseatic League and promote cooperation between Hanseatic cities.
Hanseatic Day is an annual event that strengthens relations between the Hanseatic cities and celebrates the cultural heritage of the Hanseatic League.
