The agrarian reformer Albrecht Daniel Thaer (1752-1828) is one of the outstanding scientists of the 18th and early 19th centuries. In the main profession as a physician, he devoted himself in 1780 first agricultural experiments, acquired in 1786 an agricultural experimental farm and introduced many advanced methods and technologies around the agriculture and livestock from Great Britain in Germany.
In 1804, Thaer followed the offer of the Prussian king and moved to the Oderbruch. There he acquired in 1804 the manor Möglin and established an agricultural teaching institute, which students from all over Europe visited.
The Culture.Landscape.Excursion offered by the Viadrina Museum on Friday, May 12, 2023 includes a guided tour of the Thaer Museum in Möglin as well as a visit to Thaer's places of work.
Time for a lunch break is planned. The lunch catering takes place independently. There is also the possibility on site to purchase coffee and cake. Participants should be well on foot, as a distance of about five kilometers will be covered during the excursion.
