In the 50th volume of the Viadrina publication series "Mediation and Conflict Management", Claudia Schymik analyzes the challenges a works council faces when internal conflicts threaten to block the committee. In the text "Konflikte im Betriebsrat: Ein blinder Fleck im Betriebsverfassungsgesetz?", now published by Wolfgang Metzner Verlag, Claudia Schymik describes the hurdles and potentials of conflict management in works council committees. The presiding judge at the Giessen Labour Court, certified mediator and experienced chair of conciliation committees underpins her analysis with interviews with lawyers who advise works councils as experts, the first authorized representative of IG Metall Mittelhessen as well as mediators and team coaches.

About the series

The Viadrina publication series on mediation and conflict management offers well-founded, practical and understandable answers to questions on how to deal constructively with conflicts. What could administrations do differently in their - usually conflictual - dealings with so-called "Reichsbürger*innen"? Are the legally enshrined requirement for neutrality and a mediator's stance that is critical of power and discrimination mutually exclusive? How do people who deal with conflicts on a full-time basis stay healthy? These and other questions are answered in the now 50 volumes. Each volume is based on an outstandingly rated master's thesis written by graduates of the Mediation and Conflict Management master's program at the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder).

The Viadrina publication series on mediation and conflict management is edited by: Prof. Dr. Ulla Gläßer, Dipl.-Psych. Kirsten Schroeter and Dr. Felix Wendenburg (up to volume 43).

All volumes can be purchased as printed copies for a fee and are also available to download free of charge as e-books:
