The Staatstheater Cottbus company will be performing its acclaimed ballet evening about Freddie Mercury, the dazzling frontman of the band Queen, at the Theaterhaus Kleist Forum in Frankfurt (Oder) on 27 and 28 September. "Freddie" is the touching psychogram of an artist who wears himself out between exalted stage presence and the search for love. Photo and video projections, spoken texts and interview passages enhance the dance-based examination of the longings, successes, frustrations and tragedy of an icon. This is accompanied by well-known and lesser-known Queen songs. A highly emotional evening that provides intimate insights into a vulnerable soul.
Freddie Mercury was born Farrokh Bulsara in Zanzibar in 1946 and educated at a renowned boarding school in India. At the age of 17, he moved to London and reinvented himself. As Freddie Mercury, he founded the band Queen in 1970 with guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor. His glamorous, extravagant performances testify to a hunger for life, a longing for boundlessness and excess, while his lyrics and interviews express great uncertainty and an ongoing search.
