The alderman and department head Rainer Schinkel followed the invitation of the State Chancellery of Brandenburg and the Senate Department for Urban Development, Construction and Housing of the State of Berlin to participate in the workshop on the axis development of the capital region on April 17 in Berlin.
Building on their resolutions in this regard of April 20, 2021 and March 29, 2022, the state government of Brandenburg and the Senate of Berlin reaffirm their joint intention to initiate new cross-state cooperation by means of development axes along existing supra-regional rail infrastructures and thus to use more synergies between the Flächenland Brandenburg and the metropolis of Berlin. The aim is to strengthen not only attractive residential and living spaces, but also the places of work, science and innovation in the entire capital region through cooperation.
In the workshop, which was occupied among other things with representatives of the Brandenburger federal state government, different senate administrations, specialists from the citizen of Berlin and Brandenburger promotion of economy and representatives from Märkisch Oderland, it concerned co-operation and synergies, around ideas for common projects, possibilities of the financing of appropriate projects or also the establishment of an "axis management".
In his presentation, the alderman Rainer Schinkel made it clear to the representatives from the administration and politics who were present what great development prospects exist not only for the district of Märkisch-Oderland, but also for the capital region, if work is done in a targeted manner on the expansion of the eastern railroad, if the goal of double-tracking and electrification is pursued by the state and the federal government.
"On the one hand, we were able to make it clear that there is already a long tradition of cooperation between the district, its municipalities and also the neighboring district of Marzahn-Hellersdorf. The Municipal Neighborhood Forum, the Regional Management of the Eastern Metropolitan Region, the Interessengemeinschaft Ostbahn (IGOB) e. V. are just a few examples. It is equally important for us to emphasize that there is potential in the planning of residential and commercial areas, in the improvement of transport infrastructure and in other areas where we would like to see stronger and coordinated support from both state governments. We have presented concrete projects and expect this kick-off to result in talks and agreements that lead to the implementation of the projects presented," explains Rainer Schinkel.
