The East Brandenburg Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK Ostbrandenburg) and the Frankfurt (Oder) – East Brandenburg Region have published their first joint brochure, entitled “Facts and Figures – Statistical Overview for East Brandenburg”, containing comprehensive regional key figures – focusing on East Brandenburg as a business location.
“With this statistical overview, we are jointly highlighting the economic diversity of our region. The aim is to have a robust database for regional development and for discussions with politicians, public authorities and other relevant partners,” emphasises Monique Zweig, Chief Executive of the East Brandenburg Chamber of Industry and Commerce.
“By combining data from the Chamber of Skilled Crafts and the Chamber of Industry and Commerce, we have a much more complete overall picture than before. And it enables us to draw up joint assessments of the situation – for example, when looking at the economic and business climate,” says Frank Ecker, Chief Executive of the Frankfurt (Oder) Chamber of Skilled Crafts – East Brandenburg Region.
Spanning 86 pages, the report presents data – ranging from demographic trends and economic structure to education – in a clear and organised format. This covers topics such as purchasing power, local tax rates and commuter figures. For example, in 2024 the purchasing power index per inhabitant for Frankfurt (Oder) stands at 88.3 and in the Barnim district at 96.7 – with a Germany-wide purchasing power index of 100. This corresponds to a purchasing power of 26,479.00 euros per inhabitant in Frankfurt (Oder) and 29,013.00 euros in Barnim.
Another fact: The number of commuters from Poland has risen from 1,990 in 2016 to 10,230 at present. This represents an increase of 414 per cent.
The analysis shows that Eastern Brandenburg is an economic region caught between conflicting forces. Stable employment and a strong business base are counterbalanced by an ageing population and significant local variations in economic strength. The data also show that a key opportunity lies in continuing to develop as an area of economic interdependence between Poland and Berlin.
