This year marks the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. To mark this occasion and in awareness of its historical responsibility, the district and the town of Seelow are organizing a commemoration of the Battle of the Seelow Heights, which was one of the last major battles of the war in April 1945 with tens of thousands of casualties on the Soviet, Polish and German sides.

The commemorative event will take place on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at three historical sites in Seelow.

11.00 a.m. Wreath-laying and silent commemoration at the memorial
Seelower Höhen Memorial Küstriner Straße 28, 15306 Seelow

- Welcome by Deputy District Administrator Friedemann Hanke
- Unveiling of name plaques of fallen Soviet soldiers
- Prayer by Pastor Josefine Soltau
- Inauguration of the commemorative vector of the Liberation Route
 

12:30 p.m. Wreath-laying and silent commemoration at the German military cemetery
at the Seelow town cemetery Görlsdorfer Weg, 15306 Seelow

Further information on participation

Participation is possible from 9.30 am as well as from 11.00 am.

The event is intended to commemorate the victims of the Battle of the Seelow Heights and to keep the memory of the horrors of war alive. All interested parties are cordially invited to take part in the commemorative event.
