The results of the family survey and the child and youth survey were presented at the network meeting of the 7th round table "Future and educational opportunities for children - active against child poverty in the city of Frankfurt (Oder)" on 19 May. The network meeting also provided an overview of further work on the poverty prevention concept.

The city administration of Frankfurt, in cooperation with the Part!bus der Flexiblen Jugendarbeit FfO e.V. (Project Children and Youth Participation), had organised an event for children and young people. (child and youth participation project) a few weeks ago interviewed 967 schoolchildren aged 6 to 18 and 690 people as part of the family survey.

The surveys provide insights into the realities, needs and challenges of children, young people and families in Frankfurt (Oder). The following key conclusions can be drawn from their analysis:

  • The expansion of affordable leisure and meeting facilities is necessary.
  • More safe meeting places and social spaces must be created.
  • Information on offers for children, young people and families must become more visible and target group-orientated.
  • The participation of children and young people should be promoted more strongly.
  • Support services for families must be provided at an early stage and with a low threshold.
  • Digital and personal support services must be combined in a meaningful way.

 

Mayor Dr Axel Strasser: "If our city is to be fit for the future, we must be child- and family-friendly. The Round Table is a competent partner on the way to achieving this strategic goal. It is important to me that, despite our very difficult budget situation, the child and family survey results in concrete measures to achieve improvements and that everyone involved sees that we are serious about this survey."


More than 60 participants from politics, associations, administration, daycare centres and schools and the city community took part in the annual network meeting, including Lord Mayor Dr Axel Strasser, the children's and families' representatives, the children's and families' representatives and the children's and families' representatives. Axel Strasser, the Brandenburg State Commissioner for Children and Young People, Katrin Krumrey, school councillor Susanne Schröter, the Chairwoman of the Frankfurt Youth Welfare Committee, Sandra Seifert, and the city's honorary Children's Commissioner, Jacqueline Eckardt.
