After a four-year break, a new edition of the Unithea festival will take place on Friday, June 21 and Saturday, June 22. The theater festival is mainly organized by students of the European University Viadrina and has developed into an important cultural contribution to the twin city of Frankfurt (Oder) – Słubice in its more than 20-year history.

Under the title "_sichtbar" (_visible), the team invites you to the 24th edition of the festival at various cultural venues in the twin city.

A highlight of this year's Unithea program is the premiere of the production TreuhandTechno Frankfurt (Oder) on Saturday, 22 June at 9 p.m. in the Magistrale Kunsthalle. The theater collective Panzerkreuzer Rotkaeppchen (PKRK) explores the connection between techno and Treuhand in the 1990s in East Germany in the TreuhandTechno project, which has already taken place in Apolda, Berlin, Görlitz and Leipzig, among other places. In the Frankfurt performance, the liquidation of the semiconductor plant in Frankfurt (Oder) is brought to life emotionally in connection with local techno history.

In addition, Unithea's varied program opens up spaces for those whose stories have often been overlooked so far:

  • The multilingual production "Heartburn" (Friday, 21 June, 6.30 p.m., Kleist Forum, Studiobühne; follow-up workshop on Saturday, 22 June, 1 pm, SMOK) deals with the inequality imposed on women in many areas of life.
  • The performance "Fügung" addresses the constraints of social background and images of masculinity when two dissimilar men meet in a hotel room in Ankara (Friday, June 21, 8.00 p.m., Kleist Forum, backstage).
  • The play "Sie" by Karina Giemza (Saturday, 3.00 p.m., SMOK) is about the relationship between daughter and mother.
  • The siblings Lucio and Sofia Seta explore their changing relationship during the pandemic in the open-air dance performance "State of Joint" (Saturday, June 22, 4.30 p.m., in front of the Kukuryku! Große Scharrnstraße 20 A).
  • In her very intimate solo performance "postpartal body", Michaela Maxi Schulz illustrates the consequences of birth and social norms for motherhood (Saturday, June 22, 6 p.m., Kleist Forum, Studiobühne).
  • Mervan Malwin Ürkmez offers a "rhythmic-gymnastic essay" with his play "And the Stars will be Up Tonight", in which he uses elements of rhythmic gymnastics to adopt new values and identities (Saturday, June 22, 7.30 p.m., Kleist Forum, backstage).
