The Theater Das Letzte Kleinod and the Kleist Forum are bringing the "HOTEL EINHEIT" back to life in this year's summer production and taking the audience on a journey back in time to the heyday of one of the best theatres in Frankfurt (Oder). The open-air theater can be seen from August 8 to 11 on the railroad grounds on Fürstenwalder Straße/August-Bebel-Straße.

Hotels such as the "Einheit" in Frankfurt (Oder) or the "Lunik" in Eisenhüttenstadt were places of longing: there were luxuries that were otherwise rare in everyday life in the GDR: rump steak was served in the restaurant for 5.35 East German marks. The Intershop smelled wonderful and there was Jacobs coffee, but you had to have the necessary foreign currency. Nevertheless, the hotels were more than just a showcase for capitalism; they were one of the few places where people from East and West could meet. Shadowing by state security was, however, commonplace.

The ninth co-production between Das Letzte Kleinod and the Kleist Forum focuses on the memories of guests and employees of the hotel business. Author and director Jens-Erwin Siemssen has condensed these into a theater text. "HOTEL EINHEIT" is set in and around several railroad carriages, which are furnished with original furniture and objects. Among other things, the audience experiences a youth consecration in the Red Salon, looks over the chef's shoulder at work, learns what the drink "Rote Rose-Gelbe Rose" was all about and meets Stasi-Walter in the night bar.

The performances last around 90 minutes, take place partly outdoors and are only accessible to a limited extent.

In addition to the four performances, Das Letzte Kleinod is offering a documentary theater workshop for young people on Saturday, August 10, from 3 to 5 pm in Frankfurt (Oder). Participants can then take part in some scenes of the performance on the same evening. Young people of all ages from around 13 years can take part.
