A moving play about oppression and flight, resistance and responsibility, the search for freedom, security and a home celebrates its world premiere in Frankfurt (Oder) on November 25.

"HOME" is the name of the Kleist Forum's production with the international artists' network teatreBLAU, written by the Syrian author Roua Horanieh.

The autobiographical play centers on a mother who, together with her daughter, tries to start over in London after fleeing Syria. The protagonist's poetic memories of her hometown Damascus, with its indigo blue sky and the smell of apricot jam, alternate with Kafkaesque scenes about the absurdities of European immigration bureaucracy. Above all, there is the inner conflict of an artist and mother who desperately wants to be at home in her new surroundings and yet wonders whether she has made the right decision.

The international artists from teatreBLAU take the audience on a journey through different languages and cultures and pose topical questions: How do I support my home country without supporting the dictatorial system? When should you leave your country and when should you stay and resist? Is a mother more responsible towards her child than towards a revolution? What does it mean to settle into a foreign culture? How much bureaucratic immigration frustration can you put up with? What is home?

Multilingual and interdisciplinary, with the means of theater, film and music, "HOME" invites you to a change of perspective and to an exchange about your own experiences in searching for and finding a (new) home.
