New exhibition "Aufnahmezustand. Collection additions from the years 2021–2025" in the Rathaushalle Frankfurt (Oder)

With the new exhibition "Aufnahmezustand", the Brandenburg State Museum of Modern Art (BLMK) is presenting selected new additions to its collection from the past five years in the Rathaushalle Frankfurt (Oder). A total of 43 artistic positions provide an insight into the continuous expansion of a collection that, with around 45,000 works, is one of the most important collections of modern and contemporary art in East Germany. The show is part of a two-part exhibition project: a parallel presentation with further new acquisitions will open on 12 June 2026 at Dieselkraftwerk Cottbus.

The Frankfurt presentation brings together works from all areas of the museum's collection – from painting, drawing, prints and photography to poster art – and spans a temporal arc from motifs from the 1920s to current works from the year 2025. In terms of content, the exhibition is based on classic pictorial motifs such as landscape, portrait and still life, which are interpreted and further developed in different ways in the works on display. With Aufnahmezustand, the BLMK invites visitors to discover current developments within its collection and at the same time understand the ways in which works of art find their way into a museum.
