The Oder-Spree district is introducing a baby welcome service for families with newborns from 2026. With this new service, the district wants to support families at an early stage and make it easier for them to start life with their child.
The focus of the baby welcome service is a voluntary, personal visit where families not only receive a small welcome gift for their baby, but also valuable information, practical tips and guidance for the first time with a child. The service is expressly intended as a low-threshold offer – not a must, but an invitation to get to know support and make use of it if necessary.
"The birth of a child marks the beginning of a wonderful and challenging time for families, full of new impressions and questions. The baby welcome service aims to offer families a sympathetic ear during this sensitive phase and help them to feel well informed and supported," say the initiators of the service.
The baby welcome service is run by the Netzwerk Gesunde Kinder Oder-Spree. During the consultation, parents receive information on regional support and advice services as well as other services that can be individually tailored to the family's personal wishes and needs.
Families receive a suggested appointment or visit by post. If the proposed time is not suitable, it is of course possible to arrange an alternative appointment together so that the information can still be passed on in a suitable form.
With the baby welcome service, the Oder-Spree district is specifically strengthening early family support and setting an example for a family-friendly arrival right from the start.
