On Thursday, 2 May 2024 at 6 p.m., Prof. Dr. Steffen Groß will give the lecture "Europe lies eastwards - Poland's economic and geopolitical rise after 1990" as part of the MUSEUMS-LECTURES at Museum Viadrina (Kurfürstensaal).

As a result of the war in Ukraine, the countries of Central Eastern Europe - and the Republic of Poland in particular - have gradually grown into a key role in the organization of military, economic and humanitarian aid from the West. In any case, there have been signs of a shift in the political and economic balance towards the East for some time.

In his lecture, Prof. Dr. Steffen Groß, an economist who teaches at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, begins by explaining the key features of this process of change. From a security policy perspective, the question also arises as to whether the increased threat perception in the populations of the countries in Northern and Eastern Europe is based on rational reasons and how the threat perception focused on Russia can be dealt with.
