Securing reliable medical care is a top priority for the Oder-Spree district – even in times of structural change. With this in mind, the district administration is preparing further financial support for Oder-Spree Krankenhaus GmbH, which the district council will decide on at its meeting on 6 May 2026. The aim is to ensure the stability of hospital operations during a transitional phase.

The company is currently in a transitional phase characterised by changes in the healthcare sector. In particular, the hospital reform, which has not yet been fully implemented, and adjusted remuneration structures mean that, according to current forecasts, the available funds could be utilised by mid-2026.

In order to reliably secure medical care in the district, the district is relying on a clearly structured approach: The planned liquidity loan of up to 3 million euros is intended to secure the transitional period until the nationwide hospital reform takes full effect and ensure stable medical care.

"We have a responsibility to reliably secure basic medical care in the district. That is why we are acting with foresight now and creating the necessary stability for the coming transition period," explains District Administrator Frank Steffen.

The hospital in Beeskow is a central component of the healthcare infrastructure. If it were to be cancelled, this would cause a significant gap in care in the region. Around 12,000 residents would be affected and would no longer be able to reach a primary care hospital within a reasonable journey time.

The hospital reform will fundamentally change care structures and has already been initiated, but its full impact will only be felt in the coming years – for many hospitals, this means a longer transition phase during which support will continue to be necessary.

District Councillor Frank Steffen emphasises: "Until its effects take hold, we have a responsibility to reliably maintain care for the people in the district. That's why it's important for the district council to make the necessary decisions now. With the planned support, we are securing the hospital location and giving people the security of continuing to be well cared for."
