City Cycling is a competition in which the aim is to cycle as many everyday journeys as possible in a climate-friendly way for 21 days. It doesn't matter whether someone already cycles every day or has rarely cycled before. Every kilometer counts – especially if it would otherwise have been covered by car. This year, the competition will take place from September 8 to 28, 2024. Municipalities and sports associations are cordially invited to join the district.

For the sixth time, there will once again be a trophy for the most diligent group (city, municipality, etc.). The defending champion is the town of Strausberg, which is the one to beat.

Opening

The central opening event will take place on September 8, 2024 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Strausberg on the grounds of the Strausberg Sports and Recreation Park, Sport- und Erholungspark 35, 15344 Strausberg, as part of the municipal family festival for World Children's Day.

At 1 pm, cycling enthusiasts can go on tour with Thomas Deuse, the city council's cycling officer. He is offering a tour to Kienbaum with a stop for a swim, around 35 kilometers. These could then go straight into the cycling rankings for Strausberg.

Background: The Climate Alliance's City Cycling competition invites all members of local parliaments to pedal as role models for climate protection and to promote increased cycling. In teams with residents, sports clubs and leisure cyclists, the local representatives want to collect as many bicycle kilometers as possible for their municipality. These are recorded and evaluated centrally. The campaign aims to raise people's awareness of cycling in everyday life and bring the topics of bicycle use and bicycle traffic planning more strongly into local parliaments. Cities, municipalities and districts around the world can take part in the campaign. The teams with the most kilometers are awarded prizes – but the most important thing is a liveable environment with less traffic congestion, less exhaust fumes and less noise for everyone.
