The actor Walter Plathe will slip into the role of Heinrich Zille on November 12 at Frankfurt's Kleist Forum and read excerpts from his book "Hurengespräche".
The cycle of novels by the Berlin original was published in 1921 and was demonized by the Prussian censors as pornography and banned on the spot. Today it is considered a harrowing and authentic contemporary document.
Unabridged and uncensored, eight women recount their experiences in Berlin's "Milljöh" at the beginning of the 20th century, which was characterized above all by catastrophic housing and living conditions. Their monologues describe circumstances and experiences that are, strictly speaking, indescribable and range from early sexual abuse to tolerated incest. Like many of Zille's works, they are a precise social study that says more than any scholarly treatise or history book. A (dis)moral picture between neglect, tragedy and brutal comedy.
