Eight paintings from the collection of the Viadrina Municipal Museum are currently embarking on a journey. In a way, it is a kind of beauty treatment that they are embarking on.

This is made possible thanks to funding from the Freundeskreis der Kulturstiftung der Länder. The Friends are supporting the professional restoration of the eight originals of the subject "Frankfurt (Oder), a city on the river".

The works include Carl Alexander Brendel's (1877-1945) paintings "Cows on the Oder meadows" (1913), "Poplar avenue near Eichwald" (1924), "Buhnenkopf an der Oder" (1930) and "View of Frankfurt (Oder)" (1931). The painting by Max Heilmann (1869-1956) "Blick von den Lebuser Bergen nach Frankfurt (Oder)" (1926) is also being rejuvenated these days, as is the 1907 work "Frankfurt (Oder) von der Dammvorstadt aus" by Frankfurt artist Gertud Amdohr (1879-1943) and the 1910 painting "Frankfurt (Oder) von der Löweninsel aus" by Marie Callmeyer (1866-1934).

The largest and oldest painting, which will be professionally restored in the coming months by Dresden restorer Judith Steinke, is a painting created in 1787 by the Berlin artist Bernhard Rode (1725-1797), which shows the rescue of Duke Leopold von Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel (1752-1787), who died in an accident in the Oder in 1785. The painting probably once hung in St. Mary's Church in Frankfurt (Oder).

It is planned that the eight paintings will return to the Viadrina Municipal Museum in the late summer of 2024.
