Additive manufacturing enables cost-efficient production without time-consuming post-processing steps, which means that one-off or small series productions can be realized with almost unlimited design freedom. Whereas in conventional manufacturing the desired components are created by removing material, in 3D printing they are built up layer by layer in three dimensions and with virtually no waste. A variety of plastics, light-sensitive resins and metal powders are used to create haptic components based on digital 3D models, while making optimum use of the material. Trained specialists in the field of additive manufacturing are currently still rare on the market and urgently sought.

The contents of the new qualification to the*r "Fachexpert*in for additive manufacturing (3D printing)" are transported in the context of three IHK certificate courses building on each other in a total of 480 teaching units. In the basic level, participants are taught the initial skills and knowledge required for the qualified selection and application of suitable 3D printing technologies. This is followed by the advanced and user levels; if prior qualifications exist, it is also possible to start at this point.

The courses were designed as part of the InnoVET project "Bottom-Up instead of Top-Down. Specialist careers rethought" under the leadership of QualifizierungsCENTRUM der Wirtschaft GmbH Eisenhüttenstadt and IHK-Projektgesellschaft mbH Ostbrandenburg.
