Citizen Talks and Workshops in June

In the border regions, Europe is more present than hardly anywhere else. For this reason, the Berlin-based project "We are Europe" is coming to the twin city of Frankfurt (Oder)/Słubice with its latest Europe workshop. The initiative of the Stiftung Zukunft Berlin, the Humboldt University of Berlin and the International Journalists Programs (IJP) will be visiting the region from Thursday, June 15 to Saturday, June 17, 2023 to engage in dialogue with local citizens. At various events and workshops will be discussed, among other things, how Europe in the future at the level of civil society can be actively co-designed.

To the program

OPEN SPACE EUROPE | Friday, June 16, 2023 - from 6.30 p.m.
Citizen talk at the Kulturmanufaktur Gerstenberg
Ziegelstraße 28A, Frankfurt (Oder)

What challenges, what opportunities lie ahead for Europe and how does that affect people in the German-Polish border area? What can people do to actively shape Europe at the local level? At the discussion, citizens will exchange views with representatives from civil society, politics, media and culture.

Among others, representatives of the Europa-Viadrina University as well as from city, state and European politics will be present.

In addition to the Open Space, other events and workshops around Europe will be offered:

Słubfurt and Nowa America | Thursday, June 15, 2023 - 1.00-3.30 p.m.
Art project | Guided tour of the imaginary city of Słubfurt
Meeting: Brückenplatz, Frankfurt (Oder)

On the German-Polish border is a city that can not be found on any map. It has its own flag, anthem, city administration and language. This humorous idea of an imaginary city was realized by German and Polish artists. During a two-hour guided tour, contributors will provide insights into the project.

RescEU - How would life be without the EU? | Friday, June 16, 2023 - 9.00 a.m.
Planspiel for students
Konrad-Wachsmann-Oberstufenzentrum, Frankfurt (Oder)

What would our everyday life look like if the EU did not exist? Together with students from Frankfurt, this question will be discussed. The educational workshop aims to address a dystopian theme through an escape game, thereby enabling participants to better understand what privileges would be lost for them personally if the EU ceased to exist. The conception of the project was co-funded by the EU's Europa funding program.

Rolling Table - Participatory Furniture | Saturday, June 17, 2023 - 10.00 a.m.
Talks with passers-by in downtown Frankfurt (Oder) and Słubice

Talks about Europe and the war in Ukraine will be held at central squares in Frankfurt (Oder) and Słubice - in cooperation with Ukrainian NGO STAN.
